Disclosures

The Center for Citizen Media will be seeking funding from a variety of sources including companies in the technology industry. When and if we receive such funding, we will say so on this page in addition to a posting on the blog.

In addition, when we write about these companies in blog postings, we will also disclose that they are funders in the body of the posting.

Dan Gillmor accepts travel expenses and honoraria for speaking engagements; when he blogs about events where such expenses have been paid he will say so. In addition, he is an investor or advisor to several companies in the technology and media worlds. As with funders, those ties will be disclosed here and, where appropriate, in blog postings.

Dan’s current disclosures:

  • Member, U.S. advisory board, FON, a collaborative Wi-Fi company.
  • Member, advisory board, Global Voices Online, a nonprofit.
  • Investor, Wikia, a consumer Wiki company (Jimmy Wales, founder, is a member of the Center for Citizen Media Board of Advisors).
  • Dan holds a small number of shares in these media companies: McClatchy Co.; New York Times Co.; Gannett Co.

Dan is also a member of the board of directors of the California First Amendment Coalition.

(Also, Dan is a co-founder of Dopplr, a travel-plan-sharing service that has no connection to the media world.)
