If you'd like a tool for managing your time and projects, you can use this application inspired by David Allen's GTD:

http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage and prioritize your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version and iCal are available too.

I searched long and hard for a free and open source replacement for BaseCamp. I found something that, if given the community support I think it deserves, could be a contender.

Check out ProjectPier: http://www.projectpier.org/

It certainly doesn't have all of the features of BaseCamp. For some the downside would be that they would have to host and administrate it themselves, but for me that's an upside.

Dan,
Basecamp is a good collaboration tool, but it lacks some genuine project management features. I know, it’s part of their philosophy. But it doesn’t mean that everybody accepts it. Gantt charts prove to be useful not only for PMPs, but also for guys who run start-ups and don’t have any certification. It’s a great thing that they added email integrations to their features. We have noticed it long time ago, that email is the most popular project communication tool and that it shouldn’t be separated from project management software. That’s why Wrike had this feature from the very beginning.
