Former Bush PR Head Calls Right-Wing Bloggers Political Stenographers

December 6th, 2007 by Dan Gillmor

Dan Bartlett in Texas Monthly: I mean, talk about a direct IV into the vein of your support. It’s a very efficient way to communicate. They regurgitate exactly and put up on their blogs what you said to them. It is something that we’ve cultivated and have really tried to put quite a bit of focus on.

The current administration has been extraordinarily successful in programming talking points and catchphrases that show up word-for-word on the Sunday morning public-affairs TV shows.

The big difference is that a montage of blogger parrotry won’t make for a hilarious segment on the Daily Show.

  2. Seth Finkelstein Says:

Yes indeed Dan. I thought of sending it to you myself. Rather than “We The Media”, it’s a top-down hierarchical demagogic system (if someone isn’t content to be just chatting away to their friends or writing their diary). That quote’s a little gem.
