Sounds a Little Like Community Journalism…

NY Times: Not All Is Gloomy in Real Estate: A Blog Network Attracts Capital. In some respects, sites like Curbed are insulated from the woes of the real estate market in a way that traditional sites may not be. “We’re not just about real estate,” Mr. Steele said. “People come to the site to talk about their neighborhoods and about life in the city.” This wide focus has helped Curbed draw advertisers like American Express and Volkswagen, Mr. Steele said.

Well, you gotta hand it to Curbed for their blunt honesty:

“Curbed is a gossip site, and publishes rumors, conjecture and opinions, as well as accurately reported factual information. The site may contain errors or inaccuracies. We do not guarantee, and no reliance should be placed upon, the correctness or reliability of Curbed’s content, or that of Curbed’s other properties including The Gutter and Eater.”

It sounds awfully like your impression of Rupert Murdoch’s style– is this the platform you’d like to build a real-estate publishing community on?

Or would you rather start with Zillow? Let’s face it, it’s technically easier for Zillow to manufacture a Gawker-style blog than it is for Curbed to put together the MLS property database with maps. According to Compete, Zillow has 24 times the traffic. (I’d like to it, but my post will get queued because of it.)

I meant I’d like to link to it. Here’s the compete data.

Interesting new business for Zillow. I wonder if they’re thinking about it.
