Bringing Public Works to the Public

Carl Malamud and Marshall Rose have created public.resource.org, a new nonprofit

dedicated to the creation of public works projects on the Internet. Our initial area of focus is increasing the flow of information in both directions between the U.S. government and people.

The site asks people to buy information from government archives — information that can’t be copyrighted — and then upload it to the Internet Archive so that no one else will ever have to pay for it again.

Subversive in the best way…
